New Coach Means New Opportunities For Boys Varsity Basketball

Here at Nokomis Regional High students rely heavily on opportunities within the athletic department. For the boys who participate in basketball over the winter, sports motivate them to be the best student athlete they can be. The program gives them the motivation to get assignments in, so they can attend all practices and games. With new coaching, the boys are doing all they can to impress and work hard for the upcoming season. Will new coaching develop/change the attitude of student athletes? Let's take a look at the eventful upcoming season for the boys, with new coaching.

This season the boys' basketball team of Nokomis is looking very strong, with veteran coach Earl Anderson leading the way. Anderson has coached over the years for Nokomis many times, whether it be the girls or the boys, since the ‘90s. Anderson led the Girls’ Varsity Basketball to a win in the 2001 Class A State Championship, a regional final in 2002, and an Eastern Maine crown in 2003. All around, Coach Anderson has the experience and brings the perfect skills to Nokomis as a leader. “I would not have taken a coaching job at any other school except here. The people here I know, they are as good as it gets, and I’m talking from maintenance to administration, to facility, to staff, you get the point—they are a good crew,” Anderson states. Anderson was very positive and enthusiastic about this season as he was the school. “We had a good summer season, and they’ve been playing at Miller's Gym every Sunday, plus they all have been playing together for a long time,” Anderson says. “They all want to be challenged and pushed, and they aren’t afraid of being pushed by me either. Bottom line is—they love basketball, they love to play, and they really do like each other.” Coach Anderson takes the place of Ryan Martin, who coached for 6 seasons before taking a job as the Vice Principal of Nokomis. The 2021 Nokomis boys basketball season is looking promising with new coaching and great attitudes all around.
