A howling good time at the farm! 🐐

Updated: Mar 7, 2022

On a snowy

January morning, Personal and Career Exploration students set off to learn about careers in agriculture and business at Howling Goat Farm in Palmyra. This experience was the culminating piece for students who had been exploring and learning about careers of interest throughout the semester. For many students, this was the first field trip they had taken in several years, and they enjoyed being able to participate in a variety of farm activities while learning from farm owner Ashley McCorkindale.

A couple of students from Mrs. Wilson's class shared a few details about their experience.

Our Experience at Howling Goat Farm

By Bailey Jones & Cloey Sharon

During our time at Howling Goat Farm, we had a very fun goat-farming experience that included feeding them, trimming their hooves, and holding the small baby goats. We all were kept happily busy during our visit and enjoyed getting to spend time with the animals and each other. We all learned the duties of having a goat farm and got to do some chores of our own, like feeding, watering, and trimming the nails of some of the animals.

But we, of course, most enjoyed holding the baby goats. And additionally, we all got to make felted soap that required a lot of time and effort, but had great and rewarding results. So all-in-all, this was a very educational and fun experience that helped us to learn what the day-to-day life of someone in this field would be like. We highly recommend this to anybody with an interest in agricultural work!

April 23 will be the first monthly Open Farm Day at Howling Goat Farm. We hope you'll stop by to say "hi" to the animals and the crafters!
